Cloth face masks should not be used as a substitute for surgical face masks or N-95 respirators.

Cloth face masks should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

Cloth face masks are not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease or for any other medical purposes. Avoid using these cloth face masks (1) in any surgical or medical setting or where significant exposure to liquid, bodily, or other hazardous fluids may be expected; (2) in a clinical setting where the infection risk levels through inhalation exposure is high; or (3) in the presence of a high intensity heat source or flammable gas.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. The CDC also advises the use of simple cloth face coverings to slow the spread of the virus and to help people who may have the virus and do not know it from transmitting it to others.
